Notice to all Technical Divers who are also DAN-SA
Members
Due to the relatively high risk related to deep dives, DAN has been required
to change the limits of cover on the Master Plan to a maximum of 100 meters.
However, divers who wish to undertake technical dives in excess of 100m may
be covered under the DAN Group Policy, by means of a special arrangement for
cover, if the DAN Master member: • holds a specific qualification for
diving deeper than 100m • is experienced to dive to such a depth;
and • obtains prior approval from DAN-SA (based on the submission of an
appropriate dive plan and essential information – see below)
Essential information required for special cover includes: 1. Names
and DAN membership details of the divers who are applying for special
cover 2. Dive details (depth; time; gas mixtures; etc.) 3. Dive
equipment (open circuit; rebreathers; oxygen decompression; shot-line or
buoy-line; etc.) 4. Emergency Plan (first aid equipment; initial
stabilization; access for emergency vehicles or aircraft; nearest recompression
facility; nearest accident & emergency department; nearest ICU; etc.)
The intent is not to critique dive plans or to “police” divers in any way.
Rather, it is to partner with divers who are willing to plan such dives
meticulously. In this way, problems may be avoided as far as possible but, even
if they were to occur, the first aid by the divers and emergency response by DAN
can complement each other so as to be both expedient and appropriate. It also
allows DAN to pre-allocate resources and assistance plans for these events as
needed.
DAN’s motto is: “Divers helping divers”. We hope that you experience this for
yourselves by engaging in this process with us.
