FOUNDATION PHASE
As a Christ-centred school, our approach in the Foundation Phase is
Bible-based, focusing on developing personal, caring relationships with
learners, recognising and nurturing each child’s unique potential. The emphasis
is on encouraging academic excellence and self-discipline through teaching and
training. Character and skills and the application of knowledge are developed
through instruction and practice.
The King’s School Linbro Park offers small classes where individual attention
can be given so that learners can develop at their own pace while progressing
within the required outcomes for a particular year.
As part of the curriculum, trained professionals teach a variety of sporting
skills. In addition, a full extra-mural programme is offered.
INTERMEDIATE PHASE
The Intermediate Phase at The King’s School Linbro Park offers a range of
subjects and opportunities that help learners in Grades 4 – 6 to reinforce the
foundations that they have received and prepare for the transition into the
Senior Phase.
The outcomes-based educational approach is followed, but effort is also made
to teach skills. The subjects offered during this phase
include: • Language & Language
Literacy - English (main
language) - Afrikaans (second
language) - Zulu (second
language) • Mathematics • Human Social
Sciences • Natural Sciences • Economic Management
Sciences • Arts and Culture • Technology • Active
Education • Computers • Bible Education
Learners at this age are establishing patterns of thought and behaviour that
will either help or hinder them in the future. Therefore, members of our
teaching staff are all highly qualified in working with pre-adolescents and are
specialists in their respective teaching disciplines. Each member of our
Intermediate Phase staff keeps up to date with the latest methodologies and
teaching styles though attending workshops and training seminars as they are
offered. In addition, our educators strive to work closely with parents on order
to maintain consistency of discipline and learning methods. And finally, all of
our educators draw on their strong Christian faith in order to model biblical
values and encourage spiritual development in the learners.
As in the other phases, the small class sizes of the Intermediate
Phase provides many advantages. Individual attention is given in a loving,
caring environment. Weaker learners are more easily identified and encouraged in
order to build their confidence, and remedial help is available when needed. In
this environment, errors in concept formation can be quickly identified and
corrected. And discipline issues are quickly and effectively addressed through a
programme of assertive discipline and other learner support systems.
Finally, and annual Intermediate Phase camp is held at the beginning of the
second school term. This camp provides many opportunities for learners to gain
experience and confidence outside of the normal classroom setting. It also
enables educators to build trusting relationships that will facilitate more
effective learning and discipline in the classroom.
