NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Southern African Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Association is
a pivotal physician driven organization and vehicle for the advancement of
diving and hyperbaric medicine and science in Southern Africa.
Although has only some 300 members, SAUHMA has is very active in providing
support to hyperbaric medicine and science; as such it has organized:
· Five biennial scientific SAUHMA Conferences and Refresher Courses in
Underwater Medicine since 1994
· Contributed to five biennial Conferences of the Society for Aerospace and
Environmental Medicine (SASAEM)
· Hosted the Bennett & Elliott Physiology and Medicine of Diving Course
in March 2002
· Sponsored 12 Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine Staff Training Courses
designated as Introductory Courses by the UHMS
· Sponsored 6 Clinical Hyperbaric Chamber Operators Courses offered by Sean
French, Mike Clark and Daniel Gericke respectively
· Hosted a Diving Fatality Workshop together with Divers Alert Network
Southern Africa
· Hosted a Doppler Training Workshop in October 2004 presented by Dr Neal
Pollock of Duke University FG Hall Centre for Hyperbaric and Environmental
Medicine
We hope that those interested in Diving and Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine
will support SAUHMA by becoming medicine. Membership is open to all and forms
